New Innovate Essex Fund offers support for business ideas

Essex businesses with an idea for a new product, service or process may be able to get help turning it into reality through the Innovate Essex Fund.

The fund brings together Essex County Council, Essex Growth Agency and the University of Essex to help businesses overcome barriers to innovation, including access to finance, research and testing.

It is open to eligible start-ups, small and medium-sized businesses and social enterprises based in Essex or with significant operations in the county. There are three strands:

  • Explore: grants of up to £5,000 to test early ideas and assess market opportunities.
  • Develop: grants of £5,000 to £15,000 to pilot and refine innovative products, services or processes.
  • Scale: up to £15,000 worth of specialist support from the University of Essex.

Applications opened in October 2026, with successful projects expected to begin from January 2027. The fund gives local businesses an opportunity to draw on university expertise as well as financial support.
